Students learn about the importance of a counterclaim and how it strengthens their argument in an argumentative essay. They will learn how to include a counterclaim in their writing, using transitions and sentence starters, writing a rebuttal, and supporting with evidence and examples.

Students watch a video to review the parts of an argument essay and write notes. Discuss how a counterclaim strengthens your claim and how best to include one in your essay.

Students will respond to 10 questions. They will be asked to read paragraphs and identify the sentence that contains the counterclaim.
