In this lesson, students will make connections between illustrations and text. They will use those connections to answer questions.

Learning objective

Students will be able to connect words and pictures in an informational text.

Introduction

Students will discuss the features of nonfiction texts. They will answer why photographs are important in informational texts.

Instruction

Students will look at a map and discuss what they can learn from the map with the description. They will drag text to the corresponding photographs. Students will tell what photographs and text show. They will then read a passage with a photograph and answer a couple of questions.

Quiz

Review the connection between text and photographs with ten questions.

Closing

Students will choose from 2 photographs and write a paragraph about it. They will then share their paragraphs with a partner who picked the same photograph.
