8,000 schools use Gynzy
92,000 teachers use Gynzy
1,600,000 students use Gynzy
In this lesson, students will learn about elapsed time with whole and half hours. They will tell what the difference is between two clocks and recognize how long it will take until it is a given time. Students will watch a video then learn how to use number lines when solving word problems and determining elapsed time.
CCSS.Math.Content.3.MD.A.1
Students will be able to properly tell what the difference is between two analog clocks and determine how long a time is between them.
Students will review analog clocks and their importance. Then, students will be introduced to the concept of elapsed time and watch a video about it. Students will discuss their answers to two questions before beginning the lesson.
Dive into the lesson by explaining to students how the use of number lines and subtraction can aid in finding out how long something takes, or the elapsed time. Have students practice by finding the difference between two analog clocks. Then have students complete several activities including using number lines to solve word problems and adjusting clocks to reflect the time the next train will arrive.
Students respond to ten multiple-choice questions. They will set analog clocks to display the correct time.
Students will help keep a log in a journal for how long certain events took by utilizing number lines.
