Telling time: Digital clock

In this lesson, students learn about digital clocks and how to differentiate between day segments. Students watch a video about clocks and how to utilize them to tell time. Then, students will complete several activities in which they practice reading time and adjust clocks to reflect the correct times.

Learning Objective

Students will be able to properly tell time using digital clocks and differentiate between day segments using AM and PM.

Introduction

Students will review digital clocks and their importance. Then, students will answer a set of questions to test their knowledge of digital clocks.

Instruction

Begin the lesson by having students watch a video about clocks and telling time. Have students think about why telling time on your own is an important skill to have and have them jot down their ideas to share with one another. Continue by explaining how to read digital clocks. Guide students in completing several activities in which they practice telling time. They will set clocks to reflect the correct time in a fishing-themed activity. Explain to students the different segments of the day and have them circle the time that each event or activity is most likely to occur.

Quiz

First, students listen to a time and choose the correct time they hear. Then they will respond to some multiple-choice questions. After this, they will read a question then set a digital clock to display the correct answer.

Closing

Students will act as a paleontologist and look for the clock that shows the correct time by utilizing the eraser tool.
