CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.1.5d
Students will be able to distinguish shades of meaning among verbs and adjectives.
Students will arrange shapes in order from smallest to biggest. Discuss why shades of meaning is an important concept to know.
Show how students can add -er and -est to the ends of root words to have different shades of meaning. Students will look at the example, "yell," "shout," and "bellow." Next, they will drag the words, "ecstatic," "cheery," and "pleased," to the right spots on a line to show "happy, happier, and happiest." Students will also circle all the verbs that are similar to the verb, "throw." They will complete some more similar activities that practice this concept.
Students will respond to ten true/false, multiple-choice, and drag-to-sort questions.
Students will recall what they learned:
- What do adjectives vary in?
- What do verbs vary in?
- Why are the shades of meaning in adjectives and verb important?
