CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.K.1d
Students will be able to understand and use question words.
Students will discuss if they have ever asked or been asked questions like these: "How are doing today?" "What is your favorite food?" Have students pay attention to the first words of those questions. On the next slide, explain that the question words are: "Who," "What," "When," "Where," "Why," and "How." Discuss why question words are important.
Students will drag and sort question words. They will look at a picture of a zoo and write three questions they have about it. Read questions to students and have them drag pictures to match the questions. Students will also think of questions for each question word. They will look at pictures of a dog, a truck, and clapping hands, and write a question about each picture. They will look at several sentences and identify the ones that are questions. Ask them how they know. Next, they will look at an illustration of a map and write 5 different questions (one for each of the 5Ws).
Students will respond to ten multiple-choice questions.
Review lesson concepts. Ask your students:
- Why are questions important?
- What are all of the question words that you learned?
Students will spin the wheel and think of a question with the question word that they land on. Lastly, they will look at a picture of kids dressed up for Halloween and think of as many questions to ask before the timer runs out.
