In this lesson, students will learn about the different parts of plants, including roots, leaves, stem, xylem, phloem, flowers.

Learning objective

Students will be able to describe the different parts of a plant and how they each part help plants grow, survive, and reproduce.

Introduction

With a partner, students will think of things plants need to live. They will complete a preliminary Venn Diagram of plant and animal needs.

Instruction

Students will label parts of plants on the pictures they see. They will be introduced to roots, leaves, and photosynthesis. They will will talk about the purpose of the stem of a plant. They will be introduced to the xylem and phloem, as well as how plants transport water and nutrients. They will also discuss how flowers are used in plant reproduction. Seeds from fruits are also important in plant reproduction. Students will use this knowledge to complete a matching activity.
