The lesson shows students MyPlate and discusses how some foods affect the body.

Learning objective

Students will be able to plan healthy meals for themselves.

Introduction

Students will discuss their favorite kinds of foods. They will also create a meal plan for their day, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as snacks. Students are introduced to the topic of nutrition and how they can get nutrients from food. They will also look at the MyPlate guide.

Instruction

Students will brainstorm foods that go in each food group: fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, and dairy. Then the class will fill out a chart with the different foods students came up with. They will also talk about healthy behaviors. The lesson will explain how nutrients play a role in giving us energy and how some foods may have more nutrients than others. Students will learn more about each food group and talk about fats.

Closing
