CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.7.2c
Students will be able to recognize and correct misplaced and dangling modifiers.
Students will review the placement of simple modifiers (adjectives/adverbs) and see how meaning can change when misplaced.
Students will first learn to spot phrases or clauses that are misplaced/dangling and then learn the options for correcting them. Students will engage in activities to test their understanding, including selecting the picture that shows the actual meaning of the sentence, providing the intended and unintended meaning for sentences with misplaced modifiers, and modifying the sentence to correct the misplaced modifier. Students will also be provided a modifying phrase/clause and be asked to place it into the sentence to modify a particular noun.
Review misplaced and dangling modifiers by identifying if sentences have misplaced or dangling modifiers and deciding how to fix those sentences.
Students will create a comic with a misplaced/dangling modifier. They will exchange them and create a new cartoon to correct it.
