Given during the March on Washington to nearly 300,000 people, "I Have a Dream" is one of the most famous speeches in American history. To help students visualize the power and meaning of the iconic speech that Dr. King gave that day, this exercise asks students to draw or write about their own version of a dream that would make the world a better place.
Also included are three embedded YouTube videos about Dr. King:
- An animated picture book of the pivotal moments of his life
- A video about MLK from "Kid President"
- Snippets from the legendary "I Have a Dream" speech, delivered in the shadow of the Lincoln Memorial
Each video is accompanied by engaging discussion questions. You might have students respond to these questions in groups or in pairs, or you can have students write a response.
Students will be able to analyze Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech and write a response about their own dream for the world.
