In this lesson, students will learn that decision-making is a process that requires them to stop and think about the outcomes and consequences before making a decision.
Students will be able to explain how to make responsible decisions at home and in the classroom.
Students will begin the lesson by responding to a situation. They will explain what their decision would be and why.
This lesson will explain to students that decisions are made daily at home and in school. It will go over responsible versus risky decisions. The students will use the strategy STOP. THINK. DECIDE. to evaluate situations and decide the most responsible decision to make. They will be asked to stop and identify the choice they have to make, think about the solutions or consequences, and decide the most reasonable answer. They will go through each step and explain their thinking.
Students will respond to 10 questions, including 6true/false and 4 multiple-choice
Students will complete a “What should they do?” activity which will let them practice making decisions and reflecting on their thought process with their peers. They will read some situations and sort the decisions as “responsible” or “risky.”They will also share out a time when they made a responsible decision.
You can chart the decision-making strategy “Stop. Think. Decide.” and put some examples of responsible and risky decisions that come up in the lesson and discussion for the students to refer back to.
