Students will think of topics in which they are interested and share them with a partner. Explain the difference between print and digital sources. Students will sort different sources into print and digital sources. To show how to gather information, students will look at an example of a web diagram about types of dinosaurs. Discuss and explain why it is important to take notes and organize information.
Students will read an article about King Penguins and use a web diagram to gather information from the article. They will gather information about king penguins' predators, appearance, food, as well as cool facts. Next, they will read determine whether statements about king penguins are true or false.
After that, students will read and take notes about a different type of penguin, the Emperor Penguin. They will also fill out a web diagram about the Emperor penguin. They will also discuss their favorite state and research states they would like to learn more about. They will also fill out a web diagram with information about geography, wildlife, natural resources, as well as fun facts about the state of their choice.
Students will answer 4 true/false and 6 multiple-choice questions.
Students will review the lesson concepts:
