Students will discuss the following questions with a partner: Do you know what to do if there’s a fire in your house? Does your family have a fire escape plan?
This lesson will explain how important it is to know what to do to prevent and keep safe from fire. The students will learn about fire safety equipment, how fires can be started and what to do to prevent them. They will also observe videos to learn what to do to keep safe during a fire, such as "stop, drop, and roll," and how to get out of a smokey room by crawling low to the ground. The students will get to practice these life safety practices so they are aware of how to avoid danger from a fire.
Students will respond to 10 questions, including 7 true/false and 3 multiple-choice.
Students will sort out “actions” that are safe vs. unsafe to demonstrate what they have learned about fire safety. They will draw a picture of themselves or someone else keeping safe during a fire.
You can chart the safety practices to avoid danger from fire for students to refer to. They may also create their own booklet with tips such as check smoke detectors regularly, create an evacuation plan, stop, drop and roll, crawl low to the ground.
