Students can draw quantities from 1-10. They know which number belongs to each quantity.

Relevance
Explain the importance of being able to draw objects from 1-10. By being able to do so they know which number belongs to which quantity.
Introduction
The interactive whiteboard shows a number of guitars. The students count the guitars and say which number belongs to the quantity. Next they see quantities of 6 or 8. They have to drag the quantities to the right box.
Development
The interactive whiteboard has an image of a forest with one owl. Point at the owl and count the number out loud. Below the owl is the number 1. The next image shows a forest with two owls. Point at the owls and count them out loud. Repeat this until you have reached ten owls. To check that students know how to draw quantities, show them the image of a beach where three beach balls need to be drawn. Draw the beach balls. Do the same on the beach where seven beach balls need to be drawn. Ask the students to draw the correct number of flowers for the vase. They can hold up their drawings to check their answers. Finally the students have to say how many rubber duckies are drawn. Have them count aloud.
Check that students understand drawing the correct quantities by asking the following questions:
How do you know the quantity of objects drawn?
How can you make sure that you draw the correct number of objects?
Guided Practice
The students use the worksheet to practice their drawing from 1-10.
Closing
Discuss that it is important to be able to draw objects in quantities from 1-10 so that they know which numbers represent which quantity. Ask students to make a drawing with the correct number of objects as given on the interactive whiteboard. They can hold up their drawings so their answers can be checked.
Teaching Tip
Students who have trouble drawing quantities can write the numbers 1-10 below the objects that they have drawn. Using the number line in this way shows the student which number and amount are linked.
