In this lesson, students will learn that waves are all around them. They will participate with the class as they listen to soundwaves, while everyone remains silent. They will learn what a wave is and how waves relate to their daily lives. Next, they will learn how waves can cause objects to move. Students practice categorizing waves based on whether or not the wave requires a medium to transfer energy. The class will create a simple wave using a rope tied to a fixed object. Students will draw a simple wave and label the parts of the simple wave. The lesson ends with a fun team activity in which students match vocabulary definitions to meanings.
