A prefix is a group of letters in front of a root word that changes its meaning, such as re-, dis- or pre-. This lesson will explore the most common prefixes, and how those prefixes affect the meaning of the root word it is modifying.

Students will be able to identify and use prefixes to understand the meaning of words.
Students will decide what a group of words have in common and be introduced to prefixes.
Students will learn about prefixes, such as "un" and "mis," and see how the meaning of words change with prefixes are added. They will drag the prefix to the correct word to complete the definitions given. They'll then choose the correct answer to complete sentences.
Review prefixes with 10 questions which review prefix meaning.
When the lesson is complete, students will be asked to reflect on what prefixes are, and how prefixes can change the meaning of a root word.
Have students come up with a partner or team to spin the wheel to choose a prefix. Then, see how many words you can come up with that have that prefix in one minute. Don't forget to start the timer!
