CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.1.5b
Students will be able to define words by category and by one or more key attributes.
Students will sort items into two categories: "things you wear" and "things at a playground." They will be introduced to the terms, "category" and "attribute." They will also sort words by whether you can eat them.
Students will practice distinguishing between words in different categories and providing attributes for the words they read with various activities. They will select the image that is least like the others. They will then think of three things for each category they are given. With a partner, they will read lists of words and assign a category to them. They will also complete a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting trains and planes. Students will write attributes for community helpers.
Review the lesson with 10 multiple-choice questions.
Students will recall what they learned about categorizing items according to their attributes, as well as play a Spin the Wheel game.
