In this lesson, students will learn about first person and third person points of view, and identify them in several short passages. They will also write their own passages from different points of view (based on images and scenarios in the lesson).

Introduction
Students will compare and contrast two short passages about concerts. Why is it important to be able to compare and contrast points of view?
Instruction
Introduce first person and third person points of view along with examples. Students will identify which point of view in which several sentences are written. Next, students will read a passage about ice skating and determine whether it was written in first or third person. They will also rewrite the story from a different character's perspective and discuss how it differs from the original narrator's perspective. They will do the same activity with a passage about Thanksgiving.
They will then write about pictures using two different points of view. They will also spin a wheel to determine which point of view they will write a story about.
Quiz
Students will respond to 10 questions in which they identify the point of view and the type of narration.
Closing
Students will recall what they learned:
- What is first person point of view?
- What is third person point of view?
- How do you know?
Students will determine whether their free reading book is written in first person or third person.
