CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.2.1a
Students will be able to use collective nouns in their writing and speaking.
Students will define "noun" and name some nouns.
Explain that collective nouns are words used to represent a group of people, animals, or things. Students will look at some examples, like "flock of geese," and come up with their own examples. They will then look at collective nouns that are used for people, animals, and things.
Students will drag the correct collective noun from a word to complete labels. For example, they will see a label for a noun (e.g., "a player") and complete the collective noun label (e.g., "a team of players"). Next, they will match nouns with collective nouns, like "pack" and "wolves." They will then read several sentences and circle the collective nouns.
Review collective nouns with your students with 10 multiple-choice questions.
Have students recall what they learned about collective nouns and use collective nouns in sentences.
