This lesson is an “I do, we do, you do” workshop. It will go over characters, settings, and major events in a story. Students will read a few passages written by the author and answer questions about them.

I can identify the characters, setting, and major events in a story.
Introduction
Students will talk about their favorite books and why they like those books. They will look at a row of animals and identify them.
Development
Students will be introduced to characters, settings, and major events.
I do: They will listen to the teacher read a story about a winter rabbit named Lucy. The teacher will model asking questions to self: “Who is the story about, where is the character, and what happens in the story?”
We do: Then, the teacher will read a second short story and ask students those questions.
Guided practice
Review what students learned in this lesson with 10 questions. Students also answer questions about the text of Sam's birthday taken from the lesson.
Closing
Students reflect on what they learned in this lesson and why it is important.
You do: Students will sort story elements (character and setting). They will also read another story and answer questions to it with a partner.
